ArtLords Murals with Negina Azimi

Six people working on a mural, with an image of the mural projected onto the wall. The mural is of a hummingbird and butterflies with Arabic letters as the background.

In 2023, we worked with Afghan muralist Negina Azimi to develop murals based on the concept of justice with students at Bellows Falls Union High School and Bellows Falls Middle School. Five of the members of the remarkable ArtLords mural organization, which formed in Kabul, have re-settled in Brattleboro, and their fabulous murals are starting to appear in Windham County, after the Taliban literally whitewashed their murals in Kabul. We also plan to bring this grant-funded project to the Putney Central School as part of our new student leadership in restorative practices training program there.

See the finished mural and read an article about the project in this Mar. 8, 2023, article in The Commons, “For students, a lesson in creative defiance”
