GFCJC Hosts Domestic Violence Training
Greater Falls Community Justice Center (GFCJC) hosted a training to prepare CJC staff and other domestic violence professionals from around Vermont to serve as Restorative Circle facilitators for domestic violence cases, and to prepare community volunteers to represent the views and welfare of the community at large and to provide support people for each party. Two dozen people participated in the training.
Facilitated by Donna from the Women’s Freedom Center and Bill Pelz-Walsh from Taking Responsibility Domestic Violence Accountability Program, as well as our own Lauren Beigel MacArthur (pictured), this session sought to develop sensitivity and skill in understanding the dynamics of domestic and intimate partner violence. This allows facilitators to help clients build the support and accountability that are central to both restorative justice and domestic violence interventions. Prioritizing safety and accountability, we explored tools for effective communication while seeking to identify and interrupt patterns of power and control.
