Potluck Dinner with Afghan Immigrants
On Wednesday evening, October 29, we hosted 16 new Afghan immigrants to Springfield for a potluck dinner in the hall outside our office. Fourteen GFCJC staff and volunteers cooked food, as did the Afghan families. There were six wonderful children who shared how much they love school in Vermont, while their parents expressed their appreciation for the welcoming and inclusive community of Vermonters that they have experienced since arriving here in the last few months.
We were lucky to taste some of their traditional Afghan dishes and have our hearts truly warmed by this time together sharing with them across our diverse cultures and languages. There is so much to enjoy and learn from each other! Even after all the challenges and difficulties they have been through, we are so grateful to have them here with us.
